Ukrainian separatists claim to have captured tanks, rocket launchers, and other military hardware.

Separatist fighters in eastern Ukraine are claiming to have surrounded two large battalions of Ukrainian troops and military equipment, Russia Today reported on Sunday.

The People’s Republic of Donetsk (DNR) army released a statement of their military operations saying that a change in strategy where it formed larger military units allowed it to make its recent gains after largely being forced on the defensive for much of August.

“DNR’s army has surrounded the staff headquarters of the 8th army corps, 28th and 30th mechanized brigades, 95th air mobile brigade of the army of Ukraine, and also punitive battalions ‘Aidar’, ‘Donbass’ and ‘Shakhtersk,’” the document states.

Ukrainian government officials deny the claims.
