A mother of a first-grader in Louisiana posted a photo online showing a “psycho-social checklist” sent home from school that asks if her child has “sexual identity issues.”

The checklist that Central Community School System in Baton Rouge, La. sent home asks parents to complete the form and check off any “stressors” their child may have or experienced. It states:

The following is a checklist of psycho-social stressors that may impact a student’s academic and social functioning. This list is not comprehensive. These factors should be considered when determining if a student is eligible for special education. These stressors should not necessarily prevent a student from being identified, however, they must be considered.

The “stressors” include:

Severe illness of parent or family member (cancer, HIV, heart attack, psychiatric illness, etc.)

Divorce or break-up of parent’s primary relationship

Witness to domestic violence in home

Experienced child abuse (physical, emotional, or sexual)

Has attempted suicide or has expressed suicidal thoughts

Parent or caretaker incarcerated

Pregnancy (older students)

But the one invasive question that incited this anonymous parent was, “Sexual identity issues.” She circled it on the checklist and wrote:

This is for a first grader! 1st graders shouldn’t even know what this is!

She expanded her thoughts on the page, writing this:

Due to John White’s [Louisiana education superintendent] gutting of the FERPA [Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act] law, I understand my child’s personal information is no longer as secure as it once was. The questions on this paper are offensive, invasive and NONE OF THE SCHOOL’S BUSINESS.

These questions are part of the unconstitutional Common Core and have nothing to do with teaching him proper speech techniques. I DO NOT give permission for any school administrator or teacher or employee to ask my child these questions either.

Please honor our family’s 4th Amendment right and our right to privacy.
