Oklahoma will join a growing number of states calling for a national convention to propose a federal balanced budget amendment and term limits for Congress.

The Senate on Tuesday passed Senate Joint Resolution 4 by Sen. Rob Standridge, R-Norman, by a vote of 30-16. The measure will be sent to Congress.

Article V of the U.S. Constitution allows for such conventions if requested by 34 of the 50 states.

No such convention has ever been called.
