Former state senator Patrick McDonald was sentenced to 20 years with 4 1/2 to serve at the ACI for embezzling more than $160,000.
McDonald was convicted in January of stealing the money from his clients during real estate closings through his law firm. Investigators claimed McDonald used the money to pay for expenses such as his own mortgage, dinners, and hotel stays.
The former senator apologized to his victims but never took full responsibility for his crimes. He partially blamed them on the poor oversight of Kimberly Gostomski, his former paralegal and mistress.
