The establishment is petrified by the Tea Party movement and its pro-Constitution philosophy. In order to shut it down and render it into another harmless false right-left paradigm circus sideshow distraction, they mischievously launched a concerted effort to turn it into a milquetoast wing of the Republican party and appoint media diva Sarah Palin and disinfo operative Glenn Beck as its leaders and founders.

MSNBC and CNN have turned somersaults to portray the movement as a marginalized gaggle of racists, nativist troglodytes, and retarded rednecks who spit on black Democrats. Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, and the “progressive” teleprompter reading crowd reciting from Pentagon scripts continually warn — with a little help from their friends at the SPLC — that the movement will morph into a Timothy McVeigh inspired domestic terrorist cell ready to blow up federal buildings and attack the IRS.

In order to further sanitize the movement and eradicate its history, Yahoo News has produced a video disingenuously claiming the movement can be traced to CNBC correspondent Rick Santelli.

On February 19, 2009, Santelli appeared on the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade and recited a diatribe against Obama’s supposed housing bailout plan sold to an unwitting public as an effort to help homeowners refinance mortgages and avoid foreclosure (Obama’s housing secretary, Shaun Donovan, acknowledged in a speech the other day that this scheme has turned out to be a dismal failure because the banksters refuse to refinance mortgages).

Rick Santelli is a corporate media actor. He is not the founder of the Tea Party movement or is he in any significant way associated with it. During his little sensationalistic tirade on the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade, Santelli did not go after the Federal Reserve and his bankster bosses on Wall Street. Instead in blame the victim fashion he criticized the “bad behavior” of little people defaulting on mortgages.

Santelli merely capitalized on the “Boston Tea Party” idea of April 15 tax day protests created by the Libertarian Party of Illinois in late 2008. Santelli engaged in his theatrics a few days later.

The Boston Tea Party was founded in 2006. In 2007, supporters of presidential candidate Ron Paul held a “Tea Party” money bomb on the 234th anniversary of the original Boston Tea Party (the one day event raised an astounding $6.04 million for Paul’s campaign).

“In late 2007, on the anniversary of the original Boston Tea Party, positive protestors laid hope in a solution,” writes Chad Peace, an early Tea Party activist. “In a 24 hours period, in concert with symbolic and peaceful re-enactments of the Boston Tea Party in over 50 cities across the country, energetic tea partiers dumped over 5.2 million dollars into a long-shot presidential campaign to support a candidate that embodied honesty, respect, and sincerity in the pursuit strict constitutional leadership.”

It was “desperate partisans” and opportunists who hijacked the movement in 2009, writes Peace. “I wrote to our supporters, asking them to be wary of old Republican figureheads like Newt Gingrich and current political strategists Patrick Leahy, hiding their identity behind make-shift ‘grassroots’ websites. I was hopeful that the same talking heads, like Hannity and O’Reilly, that asked us to bend over blindly to past leaders would not have enough credibility to grandstand in front of an independent-minded movement.” Hannity, along with Glenn Beck, would push the compromised Tea Party.

In a matter of weeks the movement lost focus and fell prey to the Republicans. Peace continues:

No longer were tea partiers upset with the bipartisan corruption in Washington D.C., they are mad at the socialists communists Hitler-like Democrats. No longer did Constitutionalism mean respecting the rule of law, it meant Obama is not really our president. A movement founded on the principles of independent analysis, it has become a yelling fest for punch-drunk cynics armed with incoherent talking points…. What I see is a bunch of people reciting partisan political sermons, coddling fears, and perpetuating a superficial battle between “left” and “right”; drowning the well intentioned idealists that remain.

“People are trying to do the right thing, but GOP organizations and campaigns are effectively taking over the Tea Party movement in some places in the country,” Stephen Gordon, a Libertarian political consultant, told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow in December, 2009. Gordon explained that the Tea Party movement was vulnerable to takeover from the beginning because “many of these people had no political experience … so when somebody comes in and offers to help organize and help them with these things, yeah, that’s great.”

In other words, they are not tutored in the nasty business and dirty tricks of establishment politics.

Ron Paul told Maddow in February that the Republicans are keen to inject neocon influence in the Tea Party movement. “Everybody likes to join what looks like a popular movement, then they want to come in and influence that movement,” Paul said. “Neocon issues in public policy are not exactly dead these days,” he explained.

Part of the neocon-ization and establishment Republican takeover of the Tea Party movement is a concerted effort to divorce the movement from its Libertarian roots. The Yahoo News video purporting to tell the history of the Tea Party movement — an effort deliberately excluding Ron Paul and the Libertarians — is obviously part of this effort.

It is said the winners get to write the history books and this is certainly the case for the Tea Party movement, now little more than a feckless and ineffectual wing of the establishment political mechanism that labors in service of  bankers and their transnational corporate interests.

During the mid-term elections this November we can expect the sanitized Tea Party movement to rally behind neocon Republicans as they attempt to take back Congress and continue the political shell game designed to bamboozle the American people.

Tea Party and Republican are now more or less inseparable.
