President Obama once again used a fake dialect this week during a speech to a predominantly African-American audience.
In a portion of the speech regarding crime and policing, Obama used the colloquialism “ax” instead of saying the work “ask”.
“If we politicians are simply ramping up long sentences for nonviolent drug crimes that end up devastating communities, we can’t then ax the police to be the ones to solve the problem, when there are no able-bodied men in the community.” the president said.
The use of the dialect in this instance alone might be considered unremarkable. However, Obama has a long history of adopting fake accents and personas when speaking directly to black people.

In 2008, Obama dubiously addressed his accent, stating “My father was from Kenya so I’ve got an Arab-sounding name, and I think most people know that I was raised by my mom who was from Kansas, which is why I’ve got a Kansas-sounding accent.”
Right wing pundits who have a beef with Obama have previously pointed out how he uses fake accents and personas to win over audiences.
Ann Coulter has previously noted that “Obama is such a fraud,” explaining that “he grew up in a ‘Beverly Hills, 90210′ existence, but he’s just desperate to have this angry, black persona.”
“You know, he graduated from this fancy, fancy school in Hawaii, voted recently the greenest school in America. And yet, when he wants to, he just turns it on and suddenly we’ve got Malcolm X speaking to us.”
“It’s all an act,” Coulter added. “It’s like his 70 percent of Twitter followers being fake. The whole thing is just smoke and mirrors.”
Even Leftist Obama supporters acknowledge that the president uses fake accents, but have tried to spin it as a completely normal practice that all politicians use in an attempt to better connect with people.
It is, however, impossible to imagine someone like John McCain or Mitt Romney adopting some kind of racial slang when addressing African-Americans – the backlash would be immediate and widespread.
