Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton was riled and overly defensive during a phoned in appearance on CNN Wednesday when Anderson Cooper asked her why she hadn’t held a press conference in eight months.

And judging from Clinton’s reaction, it appears that she considers phoning into CNN to be on the same par as fielding questions from reporters.

Cooper pointed out that it has been over 260 days since Clinton’s last press conference and that critics are calling her out on it.

“Will you give a press conference?” Cooper asked.

“Well, Anderson, I’m talking to you right now, and I’ve given, I think, way in excess of 300 interviews this year, so I’m going to continue talking with the press and answering questions in many different venues,” Hillary replied.

Cooper persevered and asked why Hillary just doesn’t hold a press conference where many different reporters can ask questions at the same event.

“I’ve got a lot that I have been sharing with the press, talking to the press, as I’m doing with you right now, so stay tuned,” Hillary responded.

“There will be a lot of different opportunities for me to talk to the press, as well as continuing to talk to the American public.” she added, in what many will consider to be a generic empty answer.

Cooper thanked Hillary for ‘phoning in’ and said there are “a lot of other reporters who would love the chance to address you during a press conference.”

In an appearance on MSNBC, avid Clinton supporter Howard Dean posited that Clinton has a right not to do press conferences, claiming that the media’s questions are not “legitimate” and that the press treats her unfairly.

“She has no reason to trust the press corps, and the so-called email scandal is one of the reasons,” Dean said. “Look what AP did today. They completely screwed up their story.” he added.

“They had 100 appointments, or 85 or whatever it was that she made, out of 1,800 appointments and tried to make a big deal out of it. Having a press conference, in my view, is not the solution to this. You just get more of the same.” Dean suggested.

MSNBC anchor Kate Snow challenged Dean to explain how “Answering legitimate questions from legitimate press is more of the same?”

“The trouble is the questions aren’t legitimate, and the press isn’t legitimate,” Dean replied.

“The press is gotten to be where it’s all about the lowest common denominator … They don’t treat people in an even-handed way, and that is why, in my view, Hillary Clinton should not do press conferences … The press conference becomes a feeding frenzy, it becomes a one-upmanship and who can get the best story.” Dean urged.
