Hillary Clinton continues to squirm and avoid the email scandal whenever it is brought up on a daily basis. No more was this in evidence than on Tuesday when Clinton once again gave a misstatement and appeared to throw her own staffers under the proverbial bus.

During an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, Clinton claimed she did not ask her aides to keep it under wraps that she was using a personal email server.

“I certainly never instructed anyone to hide the fact that I was using a personal email.” Hillary said, while she bizarrely seemed to be on the verge of laughter.

“It was obvious to hundreds of people, visible to the many people that I was emailing throughout the State Department and the rest of the federal government,” Clinton said.

This directly contradicts the findings of the recent State Department inspector general report, which found that one of Clinton’s staffers had told others to keep quiet about Hillary’s use of private email.

“There’s just one line in that IG report that stuck out to me and I just wanted to get clarification from you directly, in which the [inspector general] found that a subordinate of yours had told people to stop asking about your use of private email—and that was a striking phrase.” Hayes stated.

“I do not know who that person is or, you know, what that person, you know, might have said, because it’s not anything that I am aware of. I emailed, I emailed with hundreds of people and I emailed department officials directly with my email, as other secretaries have done,” Clinton claimed.

Hillary has made these claims before, that everyone knew she was using a private server, and that other Secretaries of State had done it before her. The thing is, they are simply not true.

The IG report notes that while Clinton’s use of private email was discussed with some in the department, senior officials, including the undersecretary responsible for security, have confirmed that they were never asked for approval when it came to the server, and they were not asked to review the matter.

The officials also said they were “unaware of the scope or extent” of Clinton’s email set up, despite the fact that thousands of emails were sent using the system.

As regards past Secretaries, the report found no evidence that Condoleezza Rice ever used a private email server, and noted that while Colin Powell did use personal email for work, he did not use a private server, he actively worked with the State Department to secure the system, and his use of the private account was extremely sparse compared to Clinton’s.

Indeed, the State Department’s former top watchdog Howard Krongard, who served as the State Department inspector general from April 2005 to January 2008, confirmed those details this week.

“Certainly to my knowledge at least, Secretary Rice did not have a personal server. I certainly never either sent an email to one or received an email from one,” said Krongard, who served during Rice’s tenure.

“I would have been stunned had I been asked to send an email to her at a personal server, private address. I would have declined to do so on security grounds and if she had sent one to me, I probably would have started an investigation.” Krongard added.

Krongard also noted that Clinton effectively avoided oversight by the fact that during her entire four year term there was no Senate-confirmed inspector general at the Department.

“I would’ve been the most unpopular person in that building [had I been there],” Krongard said, adding “There was no one enforcing the rules during that time.”

Whether instructed to or not, Clinton’s aides are keeping quiet about the scandal.

Fox News reports that during a nearly five-hour deposition last week in Washington, lawyers for senior Clinton aide Cheryl Mills repeatedly refused to cooperate with a line of questioning relating to Bryan Pagliano, the IT specialist who was instrumental in setting up the private server.
