Social media users have warned that the latest hashtag accompanied craze will end up with someone seriously hurt, and provide the media with another angle to go at the seemingly endless “debate” regarding the Confederate flag.
In a campaign dubbed #NoFlaggingChallenge, people are filming themselves trespassing onto private property and tearing down the iconic flags.

The incident seemingly began last week with a person removing a flag from a moving truck.
It is, of course, inextricably linked to the flap over the flag that the media has refused to drop since the horrible Charleston shooting last month.
The fallout from the incident prompted a renewed emphasis on the Confederate symbol, which has seen it being removed from everything from clothing to toy replicas of the Dukes of Hazzard car ‘General Lee’.
This weekend, the Confederate flag was officially removed from the South Carolina statehouse for the first time in more than 50 years.
The issue has caused a great deal of divide among those who view the flag as a historic symbol, and those who see it as a bygone relic of a bigoted past. Others argue that the removal of a flag and erasing history will do nothing to improve the racial tension in the nation, and may even worsen it.
Some twitter users are worried that people taking matters into their own hands when it comes to removing the flags are putting themselves in the line of fire.
This #NoFlaggingChallenge is going to end badly.

— B Mac (@Mak_Suave) July 12, 2015
People. The #NoFlaggingChallenge is not gonna help end racism. It's theft of ppl's property. Want America to keep thinking all blacks steal?
— Supreme Kai (@TayHamz) July 13, 2015
@VibeHi Stealing a flag and getting arrested is just going to increase hostility towards blacks and fuel the power of mass incarceration.
— Supreme Kai (@TayHamz) July 13, 2015
@TayHamz Yes, they do. All these "challenges" are intentionally designed to divide us as people.
— William Keane (@largebill68) July 13, 2015
I'm glad good people have used the #noflaggingchallenge hashtag to discourage this. It's not a game, it's a crime and you'll be hurt/killed.

@A1Lilray @ShaunKing This should not be promoted. On someone's private property is too far. Somebody is gonna get shot.

@claireTfran What do you mean crazy enough. It is my right to shoot you if you come on my property and destroy something on it.

There can be little doubt of what angle the mainstream media will come at this story if indeed it does end in someone getting shot. Suffice to say, this will do nothing to improve harmony, and everything to increase divide.
