Thanks to the efforts of Speaker Joe Straus and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst to sabotage a bill that would have specifically banned invasive TSA groping in Texas, the legislation has seemingly been replaced with a toothless resolution that does nothing to reign in the federal agency’s abuse of power and instead merely recommends that Congress takes up the issue at the national level.

Having labeled the original House bill “unenforceable,” Republican Speaker of the House Joe Straus and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, who previously helped the federal government torpedo a Senate vote on the first incarnation of the bill, have been busy watering down HB 41 to the point where it now requires a prosecutor to prove any case of TSA wrongdoing.

But even that lightweight legislation may now be replaced by an even more meaningless Joint House Resolution that does little to address the epidemic of TSA abuse, most recently characterized by an incident in which TSA goons forced a 95-year-old sick woman to remove an adult diaper for screening, and merely recommends that Congress pick up the baton.

“Be it resolved that the 82nd Legislature of the State of Texas, 1st Called Session, hereby respectfully urge the Congress of the United States to take appropriate action to ensure acceptable treatment of the public by personnel of the Transportation Security Administration,” states the text of the resolution.

“It looks like Rep. David Simpson’s anti-groping bill has been replaced by a resolution, authored by Rep. Linda Harper-Brown, that calls on federal officials to do more to protect civil liberties at airports,” reports the Houston Chronicle this morning.

Indeed, as we also report today, David Bellow was told by a Texas State Representative this morning that the Texas House State Affairs Committee meeting that was scheduled for this morning has been canceled. The committee was scheduled to take up anti-groping legislation.

Austin-based radio host Alex Jones will today lead protesters to the Capitol at 4pm CST to protest against the deliberate sabotage of the TSA bill, having also led a protest last month after the federal government derailed a Senate vote by threatening to impose a blockade against Texas airports if the bill, which had already sailed through the House unanimously, was enacted.

The anti-grope down bill was initially set to be heard by the House on Friday, but after Straus verbally savaged the legislation, lawmakers went AWOL and the vote never happened.

In all but sabotaging the bill, Straus and Dewhurst, self-proclaimed Republicans, have revealed their true colors as big government apologists posing as conservatives.
