President Donald Trump is reportedly pressuring the State Department to speed up the release of its remaining Hillary Clinton emails.
Reports claimed Friday that the president has grown increasingly frustrated with the time it takes certain government agencies to divulge information he feels should be available to the public.
Sources speaking to CNN on the matter stated Trump’s desire to accelerate the publication of Clinton’s communications surrounds his commitment to “transparency,” while critics argue the president is merely targeting his former campaign rival.
The State Department, which holds roughly 40,000 pages of material that includes emails sent by then-secretary of state Clinton, has previously claimed it needs to review the files before deciding whether they can be released.
Another source claimed that despite a federal judge ordering the State Department to process 500 pages of the Clinton records per month, Trump desires to “get out from under” such court dictates in order to speed up the process.
Trump’s push also follows his call to the Justice Department to lift a gag order on an FBI informant tied to the Obama-era Uranium scandal.
