On Sunday, Leslie Stahl of 60 Minutes grilled Donald Trump on Mike Pence’s vote for the invasion of Iraq.
Unfortunately for Trump, it didn’t go well. He defended his VP’s vote while criticizing Hillary Clinton for doing the same.
Pressed for an explanation on Pence’s vote, Trump said: “I don’t care.”
“What do you mean you don’t care that he voted?” Stahl asked.
“It’s a long time ago. And he voted that way. And they were also misled. A lot of information was given to people,” Trump responded.
Stahl didn’t let up. She asked him about the vote again and Trump replied: “He’s entitled to make a mistake every once in a while.”
“But she’s not,” Stahl said.
“She’s not. No, she’s not,” Trump answered.
Following the exchange, the Donald was taken to the woodshed by the media.
“Choosing Pence as his running mate is going to make it even harder for Trump to prosecute this line of attack against Clinton,” Tara Golshan opined for Vox.
“Trump’s claim that Pence was misled understates his running mate’s support for the war,” writes Zaid Milani for The Intercept. “Pence… supported the war for years, showing up at a Baghdad market in 2007 to advocate for the U.S. troop surge.”
The Washington Post claims Trump never opposed the invasion which killed over a million people and reduced Iraq to failed state status. “There’s no evidence he opposed the war before it began. And now, his vice-presidential pick is on record in support of it,” the newspaper writes.
Slate characterized the exchange as “surreal” and Crooks & Liars gleefully declared it “was glad to see Trump stick his foot in his mouth… because this one should come back to bit him later, hard.”

Even the Libertarian Candidate Supports the Warfare State
Missed by the corporate media and liberal blogs is the fact there is not a true anti-war candidate running for election in 2016.
Even the Libertarian candidate, Gary Johnson, is a neocon on foreign policy, albeit in wishy-washy fashion. He believes the United States should continue the war on terror under the largely exaggerated threat of Islam to the homeland.
“At the last debate between the Libertarian Party’s would-be presidential candidates, Johnson was happy to declare radical Islam a serious threat and merely to say he’d make sure it was fought in collaboration with Congress, not via unilateral executive action,” writes Brian Doherty.
Johnson also believes North Korea poses a threat to America and the world at large. “The greatest threat in the world is North Korea,” he said during a C-SPAN debate. “At some point Kim will have intercontinental ballistic missiles that work.”
The former Republican governor of New Mexico believes Iran is a serious threat and declared it “is categorically proven to finance terrorism.”
This is the position of the Obama State Department and neocons far and wide. They claim Iran is the world’s most active sponsor of state terrorism primarily due to its support of Hezbollah, a group established after Israel invaded Lebanon.
Left unsaid by Johnson is the fact the CIA is the most active supporter of terrorism in the world. It has supported non-state terrorists in Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia for decades.
It backed the Contras in Nicaragua, gave support to Orlando Bosch, Luis Posada Carriles and other Cuban terrorists, destabilized Cambodia and set the stage for Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge, maintained criminal gangs to undermine Aristide and Lavalas in Haiti, and spent billions to support the mujahideen in Afghanistan that would ultimately become the Taliban and al-Qaeda.
This is merely the tip of the iceberg. John Stockwell, former CIA Station Chief in Angola in 1976, working for then Director of the CIA, the elder George Bush, claims the agency is responsible for the murder of at least six million people in secret wars waged in the third world. Stockwell offered the tally in 1987.
The last true anti-war presidential candidate was Ron Paul. He posed such a threat to the warfare state Republicans launched a concerted effort to destroy his campaign in 2012 through infiltration, sabotage, and misinformation spread by the warfare state’s propaganda media.
