Just hours before he was due to receive a classified briefing from members of US intelligence agencies, GOP nominee Donald Trump declared that he will not employ the ‘standard’ intelligence community figureheads because he does not trust them owing to previous “catastrophic” failures.
When asked by Fox News if he “trust[s] intelligence,” Trump responded “Not so much from the people that have been doing it for our country.”
“I mean, look what’s happened over the last 10 years.” Trump added.
“It’s been catastrophic.” the Republican candidate stated.
“Very easy to use them, but I won’t use them, because they’ve made such bad decisions,” he also declared.
Trump spoke about the extremely questionable intelligence leading up to the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
“If we would have never touched it, it would have been a lot better,” Trump said.
Trumps comments come amid calls among Democrats for the GOP nominee to be excluded from the classified intelligence briefings, which are given to presidential candidates from both parties as a matter of course leading up to a general election.
The reasoning Democrats gave was the Trump cannot be trusted with the information.
Democratic Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid went as far as to suggest the CIA and other intelligence agencies should give Trump FAKE briefings, rather than make sure he’s informed.
“I would suggest to the intelligence agencies, if you’re forced to brief this guy, don’t tell him anything, just fake it, because this man is dangerous,” Reid stated.
“Fake it, pretend you’re doing a briefing, but you can’t give the guy any information.” he added.
Reid even accused Trump of being part of some nefarious Russian conspiracy to take over the US.
“This guy, he’s part of a foreign power,” Reid stated. “We knew he liked Putin before this, but this is quite ridiculous.”
“We know there are connections between Putin and Trump. How do we know that? He said so. And I’ve never heard Putin deny it. In fact, he has done just the opposite.” Reid continued.
Trump thus has fairly good reason to question the legitimacy of the intelligence briefings he is being given.
Last week, a House Republican analysis also corroborated reports from whistle blowers inside CENTCOM, the military’s intelligence arm, that the White House actively downplayed intelligence warnings about the rise of ISIS in order to fit a pre-contrived narrative that the terror group is not a threat to the US, and to avoid negative reporting by the media.
