Donald Trump’s former deputy campaign manager has shed more light on plans to institute a ‘war room’ to fight back against the mainstream press, saying that it is a response to the media’s ‘permanent obstruction campaign’.
Appearing on Fox & Friends Tuesday, David Bossie said that the media is obsessed with a need to “destroy” Trump’s presidency.
“No president has ever seen a permanent obstruction campaign like President Trump,” Bossie said, adding “I find it to be really offensive.”
“Sean Spicer and the communications team – maybe the ‘war room’ – can push back in different ways, without having to take this daily beating that’s a ritual by the mainstream media.” Bossie urged.
News of plans for the ‘war room’ emerged over the weekend. It appears to be part of the planned staff shake-up aimed directly at countering fake news concerning allegations of collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia.
Axios news reported that the proposed war room will manned by “experienced veterans from the campaign trail who recognize the gravity of the situation.”
Insiders have suggested that White House chief strategist Steve Bannon is the key figurehead behind the war room tactic.
“The conventional ways of communicating are not working for them,” an unnamed adviser told the Washington Post. “They have to get the campaign brand back,” meaning bypassing the mainstream media, the adviser added.
Bossie himself has been touted as a potential member of the war room. Responding to those rumors, Bossie said “I don’t know what’s going to happen, but the White House needs good people who mean well for the country and who want to do the right thing for the country.”
Bossie’s comments come in the wake of the resignation of Trump’s communications director, Mike Dubke, for reasons as yet unexplained.
“The bottom line is they need fresh legs; they need more legs,” another Trump advisor Barry Bennett told the Post. “They’re in full-scale war, and they’re thinly staffed.”
This morning the President himself took to Twitter and lamented that the Russian government “must be laughing at the U.S.” because of the obsessive yet completely speculative media coverage over the Russian connection.

Trump also re-tweeted a post from Fox & Friends, with a link to a report that presents evidence that Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, and Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak did not discuss any form of back channel communications during a meeting after the election had concluded.
