An investigation by The Arizona Republic into the use of deadly force by Customs and Border Protection agents during the past nine years deserves the attention of federal officials — especially U.S. Senators Jeff Flake and John McCain — to establish some measure of accountability for the agency.

Sunday the Phoenix-based newspaper published the first in a planned series of articles that investigated the use of deadly force by on-duty Border Patrol agents, resulting in 42 deaths — including 13 Americans — since 2005.

While we don’t make it our business to promote other newspapers, the findings of the Republic investigation are troubling enough to generate the concern of every American — especially those living in close proximity to the U.S./Mexico border.
