Critics have warned DNA sharing could lead to thousands more Britons facing extradition

Police across the EU are to be given open access to the UK’s national DNA database, it was confirmed last night.

Forces in every member state will be able to check crime scene samples against millions of profiles held in this country.

… There is particular concern that innocent people could be identified as suspects – after evidence emerged from the Netherlands, which has been running the scheme for four years, of a worryingly high number of ‘false positive’ results.

It is also feared the deal is imbalanced against British nationals, because DNA databases are in their infancy or are smaller in most other EU countries.
