Sweden’s official Twitter account said their nation’s iconic “Swedish Meatball” dish actually originated from Turkey.

The “confession” was given Saturday in a brief tweet, pinning the recipe theft on an 18th-century Swedish King.

“Swedish meatballs are actually based on a recipe King Charles XII brought home from Turkey in the early 18th century,” said the official account. Concluding, “Let’s stick to the facts!”

A Turkish government official took the revelation as an opportunity to berate Ikea, which is a major Swedish Furniture chain that famously sells the meatballs.

“By selling these meatballs as Swedish meatballs for years in their chain furniture store, they are also saying forget the furniture, I can even sell your meatballs as if they are mine, through my marketing and distribution organization,” tweeted the official.
