Students at a California high school want to stage a walkout in protest of abortion, after schools across the nation allowed students to protest guns last week.

Rocklin High School student Brandon Gillespie is getting pushback after declaring he’s interested in seeing a pro-life demonstration at the school.

The protest is “To honor all the lives of aborted babies pretty much. All the millions of aborted babies every year,” Gillespie told CBS Sacramento.

He called for the protest after history teacher Julianne Benzel was suspended for asking students to consider the double standard between the school allowing anti-gun walkouts and not a pro-life demonstration.

“If you’re going to allow students to get up and walk out without penalty, then you’re going to have to allow any group of students that wants to protest,” Benzel said in an interview with FOX & Friends last Friday.

Now Gillespie is highlighting the school’s hypocrisy by organizing a pro-life walkout under the hashtag #life.

“I would like to see if there really is a double standard and what will come of that,” he told CBS.

While no date has been set for the walkout, the school paper’s editor, Naeirika Neev, says she doesn’t think the two protests are equal, and doesn’t think the walkout should be held at the school.

“Abortions aren’t really anything that has to do with school or students here,” Neev claimed.

“They have their First Amendment, they can go protest about that anytime anywhere.”

The whole point, however, is to see if the school will allow a walkout in support of a conservative viewpoint, Gillespie insists.

The student is meeting with the school’s principal Friday to discuss his plans for the anti-abortion walkout.
