In Austin, Texas, they call it “Foam Sword Friday.” Students get ready for their final exams by baring and waving foam swords from opposite sides of Guadalupe Street, a busy street on the University of Texas campus.
In the video here, we see a freshman wearing an Obama mask get whacked by a bus. He didn’t die and was not seriously hurt, thankfully. He wasn’t paying attention. He was caught up in the moment and wasn’t watching out for his well-being.
The incident shows how people can get caught up in events – even silly college stunts – and not pay attention to what is going on around them.
What happened to this student is a microcosm of what all too often happens to society when staged emotional events – for instance, wars and terror events – take hold: people often act irrationally and do not consider the consequences.
