U.S. Special Operations Command personnel require new technologies for enhanced networking and communications, precision locating and targeting capabilities.

The assessment and a call to industry to produce the technology was delivered to industry by officials, including commanders of its service components and the theater special operations commands, from across U.S. Special Operations Command this month at the annual Special Operations Forces Industry Conference in Florida.

The U.S. Air Force said commanders acknowledged the capabilities delivered by industry over the past decade but said “looking to the future — the drawdown in Afghanistan, budget constraints and a refocus on the Asia-Pacific region and other parts of the globe beyond the Middle East and Southwest Asia — they said they will need more” tools for missions such as building partner capacity, irregular warfare and counter-terrorism.
