A Colorado sergeant on patrol in his SUV was swallowed by a sinkhole today.

“I can’t believe it happened, but it did,” Sgt. Greg Miller said to KUSA. “”It’s the most freakish thing I think that’s ever happened to me while working as a police officer.”

Miller was patrolling when the massive sinkhole opened up around his SUV at 2:15 a.m. He described it as a regular patrol until there was a “big crash” and he was in the hole.

One of the car’s airbags deployed. Dust was floating around and water rushed into the sinkhole.
