Following the mass shooting in Oregon Thursday, the president delivered a 12 minute tirade about the need for stricter gun control laws, and admitted he was politicizing the incident before the body count was even in.
When he wasn’t referring to himself 28 times, a visably angry Obama called mass shootings in the US “routine.”
“Somehow this has become routine,” Obama said. “The reporting is routine, my response here at this podium ends up being routine. And what becomes routine is the response from those who oppose any sort of gun control legislation.”
What isn’t routine, however, is that Obama NEVER speaks about mass shootings that are happening in Chicago practically every day.
As widely reported in the mainstream media, in a 15-hour period between Monday night and Tuesday morning a total of 14 people were shot in Chicago, including two young boys. Six of those people died.
Indeed, the stats show that in the last two weekends in Chicago, 98 people were shot and 13 people were killed. This is going on every single day.

So why is there never a word out of the president’s mouth about the level of gun violence in his home town? Because it dosn’t fit the anti-Second Amendment agenda.
@FoxNews @stephenfhayes Cause that would make basically everyrhing he just said incorrect.

Chicago already has the strictest gun control laws in the country, and they are a miserable failure.
The Chicago Tribune, which has been tracking gun violence in the city for four years now, notes that during a four-week period in August, more than 40 people were shot each weekend. At least 2,300 people have been shot in the city this year, which the Tribune notes is 400 more than were shot in the same period last year.
Since 2012, there have been around 6,000 shootings in Chicago, over 1600 murders. In relation this these figures, only a minuscule number of gun violations are prosecuted.
Of course, a huge number of these shootings are gang related, and constitute black on black violence.
Instead of referring to these cases, Obama challenged the media to “tally up the number of Americans who’ve been killed through terrorist attacks in the last decade and the number of Americans who’ve been killed by gun violence, and post those side by side.” Which the lapdog media promptly did.

Obama challenged the media to compare gun and terrorism deaths. So I did. http://t.co/0JZkoeLKTo pic.twitter.com/C9xj7QH5jV

@zackbeauchamp what homework did he give you for tomorrow?

@zackbeauchamp Are you actually going to pretend you're a real journalist still after this?
— John Thomas (@jthoma8318) October 2, 2015
Obama wanted news organizations to put gun deaths and terror deaths side-by-side. We did. http://t.co/Nhox2fBijv pic.twitter.com/Jf26cjo3mI

@pbump Did he pat you on the head and give you a treat afterward?
— Entropy (@entropy156) October 2, 2015
What do those comparisons even prove? The two issues are completely unrelated.
@zackbeauchamp Now please compare lives saved by guns vs. lives saved by terrorism.
— Radical Catholic (@RadicalCath) October 2, 2015
@pbump Is that homicides or all gun-related deaths? Suicides routinely dwarf homicides and tend to get rolled into general gun death numbers
— Chris Heald (@cheald) October 2, 2015
@pbump @shahidkamal And what happens to that number if you were to subtract out gang violence? Because crooks don't obey gun laws you know.
— Philip Hansen (@evil_avatar) October 1, 2015
@pbump Any breakdown on the gun violence deaths as to who had a legal firearm or not? #itmatters
— Athena (@AthenaTweets) October 1, 2015
Obama also claimed during his speech that more gun laws equates to fewer gun deaths. Patently untrue when you look at Chicago.
@FoxNews @POTUS "States with the most gun laws tend to have the fewest gun deaths." pic.twitter.com/XPEhMiiDHC LMFAO You mean like Chicago?!
— Dana (@sparkey909w) October 1, 2015
President Obama look at your own home city of Chicago.. Those are ILLEGAL guns & no laws would eliminate them.
— Scottie Nell Hughes (@scottienhughes) October 1, 2015
Most mass shootings also occur in areas where guns are already banned or strictly controlled. Criminals and psychopaths do not adhere to laws.
