Americans who want to possess guns should have to be shot with one first, a writer for the leftist rag Salon suggests.
“I believe that being shot should be requirement [sic] for gun ownership in America. It’s very simple,” author D. Watkins wrote on Friday.
Expanding on ammo control, commenting that “$5,000 bullets would be great,” Watkins says mass shootings would be prevented if hundreds of thousands of law abiding gun owners were shot with guns prior to purchasing them.
“You need to have gun, like taking selfies with pistols, can’t live with out it? [sic] Then take a bullet and you will be granted the right to purchase the firearm of your choice,” the author, a former drug dealer turned teacher, envisions.
“If we could successfully implement this rule, I guarantee the mass shootings will stop.”
After listing various high profile shootings, Watkins, who admits he gets his information from “watching cable news,” claims “our country isn’t responsible enough for firearms,” and says gun ownership essentially equates to slavery.
“Gun praisers are just like the people who were in favor of slavery back in the day,” he says, “the elite, lazy and ignorant who weren’t being beaten, raped or in the field doing the work, so they were perfectly okay with involuntary servitude, which is a problem and why I think gun owners need to feel more––they need a taste of the other side.”
Bafflingly, Watkins calls for gun owners to be shot en masse, while at the same time acknowledging that “people in rural areas… use them to hunt for food.”
“So if you love guns, if they make you feel safe, if you hold and cuddle with them at night, then you need to be shot,” Watkins advocates. “You need to feel a bullet rip through your flesh, and if you survive and enjoy the feeling––then the right to bear arms will be all yours.”
The writer’s commentary comes amid an all out effort from the left attempting to demonize firearms, most recently with democrat presidential contender Hillary Clinton marveling at gun bans and confiscation in places like Australia, the UK and Canada.
“You know, Australia’s a good example, Canada’s a good example, the UK’s a good example. Why? Because each of them had mass killings, Australia had a huge mass killing about 20 or 25 years ago. Canada did as well, so did the UK. In reaction, they passed much stricter gun laws,” Clinton said at a town hall meeting Friday.
Despite an increase in widely televised reports highlighting mass shootings, a Pew Research Center survey in 2013 actually found “gun crime is lower today than it was two decades ago.”
The irony of calling for a mass shooting of gun owners, while at the same time denouncing “mass shootings” is evidently lost on the author, and is the perfect illustration of the tolerant left’s violent reaction towards people who disagree with their opinions.
Following his epic appearance on Piers Morgan’s former CNN show in 2013, in which he argued in defense of the Second Amendment, radio host Alex Jones’ life was threatened by follow-up guest Buzz Bissinger, who also called for Jones to be shot.
“I don’t care what the justification is that you’re allowed in this country to own a semi-automatic weapon – much less a handgun,” the Daily Beast writer said. “But what do you need a semi-automatic weapon for? The only reason I think you’d need it is, Piers, challenge Alex Jones to a boxing match, show up with a semi-automatic that you got legally and pop him.”
