Libertarian icon Ron Paul remains disillusioned by the presidential race, and has warned that it doesn’t matter who wins the election because significant change will not come via either major political party.

Appearing on Morning Joe, the former Texas Congressman was adamant that Americans should not pin their hopes on either Clinton or Trump.

“I think the people are left with very poor choices and no real contest,” Paul said.

“Overall, foreign policy won’t change in either party in a significant manner.” Paul clarified.

“Spending is going to continue, government intervention, the Federal Reserve is going to keep manipulating interest rates and never facing up to the fact that this country has lived way beyond its means and the debt is incomprehensible and all we know is it’s going to grow and grow.” Paul continued.

Paul, who ran for president three times, twice as a Republican and once for the Libertarian Party, also dismissed the chances of third party and independent candidates.

“In this country, we do not really have democracy,” he explained.

“Even if we were really, really super happy with the libertarian candidate, do you think they’d get into the debates?” Paul asked rhetorically.

“No. The debates are run by the Republicans and Democrats. They’d find a way of excluding them.” Paul urged.

He opined that any third party candidate would have to be extremely rich and influential in order to stand any chance against the two-party system.

“That’s not going to happen, unless you’re a billionaire and you put enough pressure and the media capitulates and says, ‘Hey, maybe we ought to talk to a third-party candidate.’” Paul stated.

Referring to the showdown between Hillary and GOP nominee Donald Trump, Paul told viewers that he is turned off by the reality show type feel of the race.

“I think the fighting, the personal fighting, is a distraction from the real issue, which is personal liberty and the bankruptcy of this country and the failure of our foreign policy. That’s where the problem is.” Paul said.
