A Florida woman is facing federal charges after authorities said she married 10 men over eight years for money to help them get permanent resident status.
WPLG reports Yosandra Piedra Vasquez, who is from Cuba, married her first non-Cuban undocumented immigrant on Jan. 23, 2002 in Miami-Dade County. She is accused of marrying nine others in Miami-Dade and Broward counties as well as Georgia through July 28, 2010.
Authorities said her cousin, Yoel De Moya Lozada, helped to recruit the men and would take photographs of them together to try to legitimize the marriage.
The men were told by Piedra Vasquez and Moya Lozada to “file fraudlent applications seeking lawful permanent resident status as the spouse of a Cuban citizen under the Cuban Adjustment Act,” according to WPLG. Authorities said it is unclear how much money was exchanged between the men and Piedra Vasquez.
