Kentucky Senator Rand Paul gave the first iron clad hint that he is gearing up for a 2016 Presidential campaign, stating Monday that he thinks Americans are looking for “someone like myself” to vote for.

“I think they want someone outside of, you know, what’s been going on.” Paul said, referring to the political sideshow in Washington.

“For example, someone like myself who has been promoting term limits,” Paul told Fox News Monday. “Someone who says we shouldn’t have, you know, decade after decade longevity up here.”

The Senator left many believing that he was offering himself as a potential candidate to Republican voters as well as the party leadership, noting that he feels he is still “perceived as an outsider… should that be the choice at sometime in 2016.”

Clearly referring to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Paul also stated that “I don’t know that a governor is necessarily an outsider. A governor can be an insider as much as anybody else.”

When asked if he thinks Christie is a “true conservative”, following the Governor’s support for Medicaid expansion under Obamacare, Paul replied “You know, depends on how you define that; if you have a very loose definition, probably.”

“If you look at a lot of issues like on whether or not we should accept Obamacare, bring it to our state, expand Medicaid: those would be, I think at best, moderate positions.” Paul added.

The comments are sure to appeal to voters who believe Christie, a former attorney and lobbyist, to be an establishment backed ringer.

Paul also stated that he feels it is imperative to have forged a real profession before entering politics, prompting Charles Krauthammer to quip “Like being an eye doctor, for example?”

Paul has previously stated that he is not yet considering a 2016 run. However, the Paul family is clearly preparing for the eventuality.

In further comments during the interview, Paul spoke about the Obamacare debacle, expressing concern that Americans are going to see rates skyrocket under the new healthcare law.

“If young people don’t buy it the price in a year is going to be higher for the unhealthy people and it will essentially be a high risk pool which is very expensive to cover. and the prices go higher and higher and the only fix becomes more mandates,” said Paul.

The Senator noted that many Americans are beginning to realise that the push for the new law is less about healthcare and more to do with infringing liberty.

“It’s about freedom of choice versus coercion. The president is coercing you into four plans and he’s telling you exactly what you can buy.” Paul stated.
