A majority of Americans oppose the politically correct environment that many claim has chilled free speech, according to a new poll, defying decades of media and entertainment industry efforts to push the PC narrative.

In a Qunnipac University poll, Americans were asked, “Which is closer to your point of view: there is too much political correctness in the United States today, or there is too much prejudice in the United States today?”

51% of Americans thought that political correctness had gone too far, while 44% thought that prejudice was the bigger problem. 5% said they don’t know or refused to answer.

Split down party lines, 86% of Republicans opposed PC culture compared to 16% of Democrats. Men were also significantly more likely to eschew political correctness by a margin of 60% to 37% compared to for 43% to 51% for women.

Millennials were the most likely to support political correctness by a margin of 55% to 41%, illustrating how college campuses are hotbeds of identity politics that reinforce politically correct attitudes.

The figures show that the conservative culture war against the regressive left, social justice warriors and third wave feminists that has accelerated over the last few years with the rise of cultural libertarianism has resonated with more Americans than a politically correct culture which stifles free speech and unrestricted debate in favor of safe spaces and trigger warnings.

This is particularly noteworthy given that the bulk of the mainstream media and almost the entire entertainment industry has sided with political correctness in an effort to re-educate Americans into a new way of thinking that completely ignores equality in favor of affording minorities special status so that they are immune from criticism.

The numbers illustrate that despite the legions of professionally offended social media mobs who try to publicly shame people for daring to utter politically incorrect thoughts, Americans just aren’t buying it at anything like the level the media would have you believe.
