For the first time since the infamous 1992 riots, there is an uptick in the number of people living in Los Angeles who fear that more civil unrest is likely.
“Nearly 6 out of 10 Angelenos think another riot is likely in the next five years, increasing for the first time after two decades of steady decline. That’s higher than in any year except for 1997, the first year the survey was conducted, and more than a 10-point jump compared with the 2012 survey,” according to a Loyola Marymount University poll cited by the L.A. Times.
Asked why she thought more riots were likely, Nicole Cuff said “her feelings come in part in part from several years of headlines, viral videos of police force and Black Lives Matter protests over police shootings of African Americans.”
The 1992 L.A. riots caused property damage in excess of $1 billion, as well as 55 deaths and over 2,000 injuries.
What the L.A. Times doesn’t acknowledge is the contributing factor that new riots are more likely because the very concept of rioting as a legitimate form of protest has been venerated by the mainstream media.
In the midst of the Ferguson riots, Time Magazine published a piece entitled “in defense of rioting”.
The ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement that grew out of Ferguson swears spiritual allegiance to Assata Shakur, a convicted cop killer who is on the FBI’s most wanted terrorists list.
People identifying themselves with BLM have repeatedly invoked violence, while the shooting of 14 police officers in Dallas last year was motivated by gunman Micah Xavier Johnson’s racism towards white people which was in turn inspired by Black Lives Matter.
