The family of one of the students wounded in the Oregon school shooting last week has spoken out against gun control, saying that what is needed are more armed guards in schools.
Cheyeanne Fitzgerald had to undergo surgery to remove one of her kidneys after being lucky to escape the massacre alive Thursday.
Speaking with The Daily Mail, her brother said that Cheyeanne and her entire family are supporters of the Second Amendment and remain steadfast in opposition to gun control.
“We’re pro second amendment, pro guns,” said Jesse Fitzgerald, sporting a pro-second amendment shirt.

“My sister, my mother, my whole family are all in favor. We were talking about it in the hospital and none of us have changed our minds.” he added.
“We should have teachers trained in non-lethal ways to take people down,” he noted when asked what potential solutions to schools being targeted by mentally troubled individuals.
“There is surely a way to defend kids at school. Armed guards on campuses maybe.” Fitzgerald said.
Fitzgerald revealed that his sister survived the ordeal by playing dead, and having to literally hide under the body of a classmate.
Cheyeanne’s mother, Bonnie Schaan, echoed the words of her son in an interview with NBC Nightly News, telling viewers “America we need to pack guns–if this is what it’s coming to–to have to protect ourselves.”
The family have set up a GoFundMe page, in the hope of raising $10,000 to cover Cheyeanne’s medical costs.
The family’s views are also shared by that of another victim’s relatives. The family of Quinn Cooper, who was tragically shot dead in the attack, told media while they are distraught, they do not want their son’s death to be used as an excuse to push further gun control laws.
“We are hearing so many people talk about gun control and taking people’s guns away,” the family said in a statement.
“If the public couldn’t have guns it wouldn’t help since sick people like this will always be able to get their hands on a gun. We need to be able to protect ourselves as a community and as a nation. Please don’t let this horrible act of insanity become about who should or shouldn’t have a gun.” the statement read.
Meanwhile, politicians, like Hillary Clinton continue to use the tragedy to advocate just that. Clinton has vowed to take executive action on the matter if elected president. Minions, such as Democratic Senator Chris Murphy, have echoed the call.
Murphy said on MSNBC News that “Congress is effectively quietly endorsing these mass murders” by not passing stricter gun control laws.
