A video uploaded to Facebook on Monday shows NYPD officers detaining two 12 year old children, and an out of control officer running up from behind and repeatedly punching one of the handcuffed boys.  If someone without a badge did this, they would be justifiably arrested for child abuse.  This officer will more than likely not even receive a slap on the wrist.

“This happened today on my way to the post office. The kids were 12. They had supposedly pushed one of their classmates down. However when the victim was asked, he said those weren’t the guys. They were still taken away. 12. Years. Old.” the witness, Sarah Doneghy wrote in the caption for her video.

In the video, horrified onlookers scream at police to stop and ask why they would treat people like this.  Witnesses exchange information vowing to make complaints against the officers.

“You guys need a different profession. Go to war, this isn’t a war, this is a 12 year old kid!” one woman who proclaims she is a lawyer angrily comments at the officers.

With NYPD in the spotlight after an officer got away with murdering Eric Garner on video, and the recent execution of 12 year old Tamir Rice in Ohio, you may assume that the department would be on their best behavior.  Sadly, it seems as though they know public opinion does not actually matter as long as they have police unions that act like mobs to protect them and a continuous supply of ignorant grand juries to refuse to indict them.

Thankfully this good citizen did her part by pulling out her camera.  There is no way of knowing how many times a day this happens and we never hear about it.  Police have been able to terrorize citizens, including children, for far too long.  Always do your part and film the police.  As you can see in this video, things can easily escalate from relatively calm to brutality in no time at all, and sunlight is the best disinfectant.
