A meteorologist discussing Hurricane Florence claimed President Trump is “actively making the problem worse.”

The meteorologist, Eric Holthaus, blamed Trump for Hurricane Florence’s strength by claiming he’s “not addressing this root cause of worsening storm” which Holthaus believes is “climate change.”

“And we’re seeing that a little bit, too, in the last few decades that hurricanes are moving a little bit more slowly as they’re making landfall as weather patterns change in response to climate change,” Holthaus told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes. “So there’s a lot going on here, really.”

“And it’s really — it’s gotten to the point where, you know, we have a president that is denying the impacts of, you know, this hurricane season last year and this year and actively making the problem worse by, you know, not addressing this root cause of worsening storms.”

CNN even went further by pondering whether the president is “complicit in this storm.”

“His policies have been tearing down our defenses to climate change, which is often a blame for extreme weather,” CNN analyst John Avlon said. “On the same day Trump was discussing Florence, his EPA proposed rolling back restrictions on emissions of methane.”

“That’s just the latest environmental policy targeted by the Trump Administration.”

Neither outlet explained how a policy enacted by Trump last year could have an immediate impact on hurricanes this year.
