A Pearsall, Texas police officer had methamphetamine in his system at the time of the accident that killed him in April, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner,.

The Jourdanton and Charlotte Police Departments said officer Mike Villarreal was on Highway 97, taking a 15-year-old boy to a juvenile facility in the early hours of April 13th, when he crossed the center line and crashed head-on with a flat-bed pick-up truck.

Villarreal died at the scene. The teen and the truck driver, Anthony Cantu, 28, were both seriously injured but survived.
