An Illinois high school’s graduation decision is causing some controversy.
Officials would not allow a graduate who joined the Marine Corps to walk across the stage in her uniform.
The decision has sparked a protest outside the school. Many of the signs compare Megan Howerton’s ability to fight for the country, but not able to walk in a graduation ceremony. But not everyone agrees the decision was an injustice.
“Megan has always been very determined to do what’s right and I think she felt the military was a calling for her,” fellow student Grace Rodriguez said. “She wore her dress blue instead of the traditional gown.”
