A federal official says the man charged with sending poison letters to President Barack Obama, a U.S. senator and a Mississippi judge has been released from jail.

U.S. Marshals Service deputy Jeff Woodfin says Paul Kevin Curtis has been released from custody. Woodfin said he does not know if there were any conditions on the release.

Curtis was arrested last week at his house in Corinth, Mississippi, and charged with sending ricin-laced letters to the president, Senator Roger Wicker and a Lee County, Mississippi, judge.

Investigators testified they found no trace of the poison ricin or the tools they think could have created it in Curtis’s home or car, and no Internet searches for how to make the drug on his computer.

Through an attorney, the 45-year-old Curtis has said he is innocent. Earlier, officials canceled a detention and preliminary hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
