Macy’s, the department store giant, has been one of many retailers to donate funds to Planned Parenthood int he past, however, they have ceased their donations following a deluge of pro-life customer complaints asking that they appropriate their funds elsewhere.
Many are considering this a Christmas miracle and are excited that anti-abortion shoppers can now resume their holiday shopping at one of their favorite stores.
Lawerence Wray of the organization 2ndVote, shared his victory and why he feels his organization has been so instrumental in the cause:
“You may remember how four companies (AT&T, Coca-Cola, Ford, and Xerox) publicly distanced themselves from Planned Parenthood last year after our research exposed forty-one companies with direct financial ties to the abortion giant. Well, we are happy to report that we can take another company off that list—Macy’s, who confirmed with 2ndVote last week that they no longer give nor match donations to Planned Parenthood.
We wanted to share this great news with you because the credit is due to our 2ndVote members who have engaged Macy’s and other companies for their position on the Life issue. This victory wouldn’t have been possible without your involvement.”
2ndVote states that over 25% of Planned Parenthood’s funding comes from private donations, which includes corporations. 36 major retailers send funds to Planned Parenthood, including Ben & Jerry’s, Nike, American Express, Starbucks and Verizon, all of which many conservative consumers are attempting to avoid to make a statement.
Katie Yoder, an analyst with Newsbusters.com, shared her opinion on the decision for the corporate giant to overturn its decision to continue to offering funding to Planned Parenthood:
“This Christmas, pro-lifers should consider shopping at Macy’s. Because, as it turns out, the giant chain listens to its conservative consumers.
It’s unlikely that the liberal media — which boast strong ties to Planned Parenthood and have been instructed to cover for the abortion giant — will publicize Macy’s funding halt.”
There is no word yet on whether this move has helped or hurt sales at Macy’s.
