Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal has cut off state taxpayer funding to Planned Parenthood in the wake of shocking videos showing the organization harvesting baby organs for profit.
Not only has Jindal blocked Medicaid money to Planned Parenthood of the Gulf Coast on Monday, but he also barred the State Dept. of Health and Hospitals from funding the organization.
“In recent weeks, it has been shocking to see reports of the alleged activities taking place at Planned Parenthood facilities across the country,” the governor said. “Planned Parenthood does not represent the values of the people of Louisiana and shows a fundamental disrespect for human life.”
“It has become clear that this is not an organization that is worthy of receiving public assistance from the state.”
Jindal based his decision on the undercover videos released by the Center for Medical Progress which show Planned Parenthood senior employees and affiliates discussing how they perform abortions that leave organs and other body parts intact so they can resell them on the market.
“We’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know that, so I’m not gonna crush that part, I’m gonna basically crush below, I’m gonna crush above, and I’m gonna see if I can get it all intact,” Planned Parenthood’s senior director Dr. Deborah Nucatola said in one video.
The videos damaged public opinion of the organization so badly that an Obama-appointed federal judge issued a restraining order preventing the CMP from releasing more of its undercover videos.
“The Center for Medical Progress follows all applicable laws in the course of our investigative journalism work and will contest all attempts from Planned Parenthood and their allies to silence our First Amendment rights and suppress investigative journalism,” the CMP said in response to the court order.
The videos were filmed during the CMP’s nearly three-year-long undercover investigation of Planned Parenthood’s baby organ harvesting which was previously unknown to the public.
“Planned Parenthood’s criminal conspiracy to make money off of aborted baby parts reaches to the very highest levels of their organization,” the CMP’s David Daleiden said. “Elected officials must listen to the public outcry for Planned Parenthood to be held accountable to the law and for our tax dollars to stop underwriting this barbaric abortion business.”
