Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson declared Monday that he believes Donald Trump is “clearly” a racist, and that he fears what would happen under a Trump presidency.
Speaking during a Facebook live interview, Johnson hammered Trump’s comments on U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel, whom the GOP nominee declared has a conflict of interest in overseeing lawsuits against Trump University owing to his “Mexican heritage.”
“The latest comments on the Hispanic judge — nothing short of racist,” Johnson told a reporter.
The former New Mexico, governor added “These are incendiary comments to me as a former governor of a state that’s one of the four majority-minority states in the country.”
Johnson verified that he “Clearly, clearly” believes Trump to be a racist and that he is “absolutely” anxious as to what will happen if the business guru wins the White House.
“Donald Trump has said 100 things in this campaign that would disqualify any other candidate, and if you turn the page tomorrow it will be 104 things,” Johnson said.
“He’s going to kill the families of Muslim terrorists,” Johnson added. “He’s going to ban Muslims from coming into the country. He’s all for free trade, but in the next sentence will force Apple to make their iPads and iPhones in the U.S. He’s going to apply a 35 percent tariff to imported goods. Who will end up paying for that? You and I.”
Johnson, who has not made any significant dent on popularity polls thus far, also slammed Trump’s immigration policy as “absolute craziness” and said that deporting illegal immigrants already living in the US would be “unfair and inhumane.”
“Building a fence across the border — absolute craziness. Just crazy,” Johnson said. “How’s that fence going to work? The border between Mexico and Texas is the Rio Grande river. Are we going to build it on our side or their side? Maybe right down the middle? This is just insanity. It’s insanity.”
Johnson clarified that he supports a program to allow such immigrants to take background checks and obtain visas so long as they are working and have not broken any laws.
Trump, meanwhile, has doubled down on his comments concerning the Trump University fraud case.
“The people asking the questions — those are the racists,” Trump said, urging supporters “I would go at ’em.”
“We will overcome,” Trump said. “And I’ve always won and I’m going to continue to win. And that’s the way it is.”
Elsewhere during his interview, Johnson admitted to being an active user of marijuana, but said he would not do so if he became president. He also promised to lower taxes, and eliminate both the IRS and the NSA via executive order, as well as several other federal agencies via the legislative process.
