Twitter has exploded in recent days with violent threats targeting Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump.

While the left often accuses the right of engaging in vitriolic rhetoric, the number of threats directed against Trump far outweighs those leveled at Hillary Clinton.

A basic Twitter search for the terms “kill Donald Trump” and “murder Donald Trump” reveal a deluge of violent remarks directed at the Republican candidate in the aftermath of last week’s debate.

In comparison, similar threats against Clinton are almost non-existent.

Although the vast majority of the threats are obviously tongue-in-cheek, some of them come across as extremely menacing.

The ones that obviously carry no significant threat would still be denounced by the left if they were made against Bernie Sanders or Hillary.

For the past year, the left has been on a crusade to draw attention to violent and bullying threats made against left-wing activists and feminists, particularly in the context of the #Gamergate scandal.

In turn, the media has repeatedly portrayed conservative and anti-social justice warrior Internet users as violent and hateful.

These tweets illustrate how many on the left are just as culpable of sending intimidating messages, if not more so than those on the right.

As we reported back in 2012, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was also on the receiving end of numerous death threats during the campaign.
