Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (D., Vt.) said he hoped the vote wouldn’t be delayed but granted a request by Mr. Sessions to delay the vote per committee rules that gives members a right to request a one-week delay. A delay in the deliberations had been expected.

Mr. Sessions said the committee was moving forward in a timely process, and that he still had concerns about the nominee. “Fundamentally, the nominee lacks the experience and the intellectual rigor that you develop from full-time practice of the law or from serving as a judge,” he said. “She’s had neither of those experiences and I think it shows from her testimony.”
