Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio trusts Donald Trump on the issue of illegal immigration and hopes the Republican presidential candidate does not back down on his policy ideas.

The outspoken Maricopa County Sheriff said he hoped when Trump met with House Speaker Paul Ryan, they were “not trying to play games” and get the presumptive GOP nominee to backtrack on his immigration stance.

“We have to have Donald Trump not give in, to do something about the problem,” Arpaio told Fox News host Neil Cavuto on Thursday. “He’s our only savior right now.”

Responding to the report that one million immigrants are trying to expedite the naturalization process to allow them to vote against Trump in November, Arpaio said, “Well, be my guest.”

“Look what Donald Trump got. He has millions of people now voting,” the sheriff said, adding that these immigrants, once registered to vote may not even go to the polls in November and if they do, there is no guarantee they will vote for a Democratic candidate.

Trump’s stand on jobs and the economy will appeal to the Hispanic and Latino voters who are here legally, Arpaio said.

“The Hispanic community will fold into the program, too. They’re here to work, they’re here to take care of their families, and they’re good people.”
