A rifle-toting man entered a North Carolina church service late on New Year’s Eve claiming he “was going to do some bad things.”

Tragedy was averted when the church’s pastor peacefully disarmed the man.

Upon spotting the weapon, pastor Larry Wright interrupted his sermon and walked toward the man as the 60 or so members of the congregation began to panic, some heading for the exits.
