A former Pharr [Texas] police officer is headed to trial for sexual assault of a child charges.
Erasmo Mata, Jr. appeared before Judge Letty Lopez in the 389th State District Court on Monday morning.
Mata is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl while other officers stood by and watched back in 2013.
The indictment comes after Texas Rangers investigated the case and turned their evidence over to prosecutors.
Mata’s defense attorney Fernando Mancias asked Judge Lopez on Monday for more time to prepare for his client’s trial.
