Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton told supporters last March that “America never stopped being great” in a direct jab at fellow candidate Donald Trump. Ironically, her husband and former president Bill Clinton has used Trump’s now-famous slogan numerous times in the past.

In 1991 during his presidential campaign, Clinton unequivocally stated to the country his belief “that together we can make America great again.”

“I believe that we can make America great again, and with your help, your heart, your devotion and your efforts, we can build a community of hope that will inspire the world,” he said, as reported by Breitbart.

Clinton called for making the United States great also in 1992 during a campaign event in Georgia.

Clinton again used the phrase that same year when responding to an attack from then president George H.W. Bush.

“I want to attack these problems and make America great again,” the short video says.

“But it appears that Bill Clinton loved the phrase so much, he used it again in a radio ad in January 2008 to defend his wife against President Obama,” writes Breitbart’s Charlie Spiering.

Despite giving the comment repeated praise over the years, Clinton attacked the phrase just last month – likely over it’s suddenly popularity among Trump supporters.

“I said, ‘If you believe things should be made as they once were’ — which is essentially, “Make America Great Again” — remember this: It wasn’t so great for a lot of people the way things once were.”
