One of Mexico’s top cabinet secretary’s and a key figure in the country’s fight against drug cartels has died in a helicopter crash.
Francisco Blake Mora is the second interior minister to die in an air crash during president Felipe Calderon’s administration.
Despite speculation that the incident might have been a planned hit, the president has said he believes it was an accident, caused by bad weather. Seven other people were also killed in the incident.
In 2008 a Learjet slammed into a Mexico City street and killed former interior secretary Juan Camilo Mourino and 15 others. It was blamed on pilot error.
