Ted Cruz officially announced his resignation Tuesday after presidential candidate Donald Trump was projected to win the Indiana Republican primary.

This latest win, following recent victories along the Eastern seaboard, places the hotel mogul within 200 delegates of the needed 1,237 to win the nomination.

“With 17% of the vote in at 7:20 p.m. ET, Trump was in the lead with 53.7% of the vote while Cruz was at 35.1%. Kasich was at 8.6%,” CNN reports.

“Thank you Indiana, we were just projected to be the winner,” Trump said on Twitter. “We have won in every category. You are very special people — I will never forget!”

Despite campaigning heavily throughout the state and announcing Carly Fiorina as a running mate, Ted Cruz failed to gather a substantial number of votes before finally bowing out.

“I’ve said I would continue on as long as there was a viable path to victory; tonight I’m sorry to say it appears that path has been foreclosed,” Cruz told a crowd in Indianapolis.

Trump is set to hold a live press conference discussing his victory at Trump Tower.

On the democrat side of the race, CNN reports a victory for Bernie Sanders over establishment-hopeful Hillary Clinton.
