Congressional intel chair says Paul “doesn’t deserve to be a U.S. Senator.”

GOP Congressman Peter King, chair of the House Homeland Security subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, continued his rampage of craziness across the news networks today and yesterday by attacking Senator Rand Paul over his planned class-action lawsuit against NSA spying on Americans.

Appearing on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, King, who has denied that there is any NSA scandal whatsoever, said that Paul is engaged in creating a “hysteria” about the spy agency.

“I strongly support what the NSA is doing,” he said. “We can have honest differences about what their policies are, but what Rand Paul is creating is hysteria.”

“When Rand Paul is comparing General Clapper to [Edward] Snowden, saying Clapper belongs in jail with Snowden, talking about all phone calls are being listened to, create this paranoia among Americans that the NSA is spying on everyone, the fact IS he has not been able to cite one abuse by the NSA.” King added.

When asked why Paul would intentionally try to create such a hysteria, King responded:

“He’s playing on some sort of scare-mongering isolationism, and rather than using intelligent arguments as people could well do, he’s resorting to fear. He’s appealing to the lowest common denominator, and I find that very offensive.”

“It’s the same reason he was saying he was worried about the CIA using drones to kill Americans in Starbucks,” King said.

The comments came on the back of an appearance by King yesterday on Fox News, during which he labeled charges made against the NSA by Paul as “lies”, adding that Paul “doesn’t deserve to be a U.S. Senator.”

“Rand Paul does not know what he’s talking about,” King said. “And, Rand Paul is really spreading fear among the American people.”

“To me, he’s either totally uninformed or he’s part of that hate America crowd that I thought left us in the 1960s.” King urged.

“In any event, he doesn’t deserve to be in the United States senate for spreading that type of misperception and absolute lies to be honest with you,” the congressman concluded.

During the crazed appearance, King also suggested that the NSA has every right to spy on elected representatives, reasoning that they could be “talking to an Al Qaeda leader in Iraq or Afghanistan.”

“I think members of Congress should be treated the same as everyone else,” King said. “If a member of Congress is talking to an Al Qaeda leader in Iraq or Afghanistan, why should that member of Congress be any different from any person on the street?”

The line of questioning stemmed from Sen. Bernie Sanders’ recent objection to the NSA monitoring Congress. “They’re not spying on anyone,” King suggested in response, without going into any detail.

Appearing on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday, Rand Paul defended his decision to press forward with the lawsuit against the NSA, saying that it would set a precedent to allow everyday Americans to oppose the government collecting their communications data en mass.

“I think the idea of a class action lawsuit with hundreds of thousands of participants really beats home and brings to the forefront the idea that this is a generalized warrant and it should be considered unconstitutional.”

“That’s what we fought the Revolutionary War over,” Paul said.

Both Paul and King are expected to run for the party nomination in 2016.
