Hillary Clinton told CNN’s Anderson Cooper after the attack in Nice “we need to strength our alliances, including with NATO, not undermine them.”

The Democrat presidential candidate did not explain how NATO would prevent or respond to a domestic terror attack in France.

Since its creation following the Second World War in response to Soviet expansion, NATO has engaged in military operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and has conducted other operations, including the deployment of warship in the Gulf of Aden ostensibly to protect maritime traffic from Somali pirates.

It has not worked with European security services to combat domestic terror and it is not clear if this is what Clinton had in mind when she made her remarks.
