MSNBC’s Brian Williams bemoaned the prevalence of “fake news” Wednesday evening despite losing his job with NBC’s Nightly News last year for spreading fake news.

Williams, who lost his position as NBC anchor in 2015 after lying about being under RPG fire while in a helicopter during the Iraq war, warned viewers of the “growing and booming” business of fabricated content.

“And lately there’s been a lot of coverage in the real news about the growing and booming business of creating fake news,” Williams said.

The disgraced anchor also lamented the Trump transition team for spreading “fake news” post-election.

“Fake news played a role in this election and continues to find a wide audience,” Williams added.

Social media was quick to criticize Williams following the report for what they saw as both hypocrisy and irony.

While the term “fake news” initially refered to websites that knowingly published fictional stories, the establishment press, whose approval rating among the public is at an all-time low, has now aimed the term at the increasingly popular independent media.

As argued by Infowars’ Paul Joseph Watson, the mainstream media’s fake news has by far produced the most disastrous outcomes.

“The entire ‘fake news’ narrative being pushed by the mainstream media has nothing whatsoever to do with concerns over people being misled,” Watson says. “If that were the case, the mainstream media itself would stop habitually lying to the American people and its trustworthiness wouldn’t be in the toilet.”
