BP wants to stop paying out millions of dollars in what it calls spurious compensation claims stemming from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill in 2010.

The oil company has reportedly warned that the excessive claims could damage its financial prospects.

It is said to be seeking a US court injunction, arguing that businesses on the Louisiana coast are pursuing multi-million dollar claims for “non-existent, artificially calculated losses”.
