Demand for mobile broadband airwaves is stronger than ever, as evidenced by the more than $34 billion that has been bid in the FCC’s ongoing spectrum auction.
The auction, for 65 megahertz of spectrum in the AWS-3 band, kicked off on Nov. 13. There is no set date for when it will end; the FCC says its Wireless Telecommunications Bureau “will set the pace of the auction based upon monitoring of the bidding and assessment of the auction’s progress.”
For now, that progress appears to be going quite well. As reported by the New York Times, bidding has topped $34 billion, which is quite a bit higher than the $10 billion reserve price set by the FCC.
